Thrift Tips

1. Go Often

Deals Change all the time. Thrift stores change inventory multiple times a day with new donations. Go at least once a week to get the best deals possible.

2. Dig Through Everything

Make sure you dig through everything you can. I have found great deals on purses in the MISC and backpack section. I look through the jewelry. I look through the cosmetic bags and often find hidden treasures.

3. Know When To Walk Away

Sometimes thrift stores overprice their stuff. One store wanted 20 dollars for a pair of shoes that were 12$ brand new. I really wanted those kitten print sneakers, but I also like to find good deals. You should also consider walking away when your collections are getting to hoarder level statuses. Do you really need that mug? Will it REALLY make you happy?

4. Ask Questions

When I walk into the store I find an associate and ask what color tag is 50% off that day. I often have to ask which tag is 1 dollar as well.

5. Sign Up For Emails

My Goodwill region gives a coupon in email format each month. The month of September’s coupon is 20% off anything over 20 dollars! The nice part is that it can be used unlimited times!

6. Go To The "Nicer" Part of Town

Where I live the “nicer” part of town means Scottsdale, AZ. Its about a 20-30 minute drive from where I live. It is so worth it once I get there. The display case is always FULL and I mean FULL of designer purses. The shoes are in better shape than other areas. I find things on my “wish list” more often as well.

7. Keep A Wishlist

  •
  • Keep a Wish List
    • Keep a running list of wants. If you have an item in mind you will remember to look for it. Right now I am looking for a shelf that is wide and tall. I also keep my eyes peeled for  vintage colored glassware and Pyrex dishes.
  • Keep an Open Mind
    • Sometimes you make a discovery and find something awesome you didn’t know you even wanted.
